How to Dress Your Property for Photography - The Bedroom
This post forms one of our series of posts on preparing different areas of your home for photography. In this post we look at one of the rooms that should be fairly easy to prepare - The Bedroom.
- Before -
Here the bed is a uninspiring, wrinkled void in the photograph, it’s grabbing all your attention, taking up 25% of the photograph and there is nothing that looks good about this bedding. We’d generally advise against plain white bedding but it can work provided you have a generous throw to go over the foot of the bed, some nice plump pillows and a couple of decent scatter cushions.
- After -
To make the bed look good, we changed the bedding for some light, but slightly less harsh bedding, that we ironed on the bed to remove any creases. A throw over the bottom 1/3 of the bed is also crucial to hide the layers of bedding. Ideally this should hang down just enough to cover to the bottom of the mattress. We’ve folded over the top of the throw so that it is the right width. We’ve also folded over the top of the duvet to add extra interest before stacking the pillows up neatly and topping the off with a couple of scatter cushions.
Elsewhere in the bedroom we’ve removed the dressing gowns from the door, swapped out one of the mismatching bedside light bulbs, tidied up the bedside tables and opted to remove the TV so that the chest of drawers could be styled with more relaxing items. We’ve also straightened up the curtains and popped some flowers in the fireplace to help keep your eye moving around the image.
Below are a couple more examples of bedrooms before and after dressing them.
